Migraine is one of the major causes of headaches. This is a major cause which affects a large number of people from time to time. This is also known as a neurological disease which has a wide range of symptoms as well. Migraine is one of the common symptoms which is found in many people who are affected with headaches. A large number of people in United States of America are affected with this symptom. The treatment for this type of headache is very costly and will also take time.
Migraine will lead to causing of severe headaches or moderate headaches. The migraine related headaches can remain for several hours. In some patients migraine can even remain for 3 days as well. This is one of the symptoms of headache which can even cause vomiting, nausea, sensitivity to bright lights as well as severe noise. The International Headache Society has also classified migraine into various categories according to the severity of the pain. Some of these categories of Migraine include:
- 0 - This means no pain.
- 1 - This means mild pain which does not interfere in doing the usual activities.
- 2 - This means moderate pain which disturbs the usual activities but does not wholly prevent these activities.
- 3 - This means severe pain which prevents all the regular activities.
Migraine is further divided into two broad categories. These are the migraine without aura and the other one is the migraine with aura. Again it should be noted that those who have migraine without aura can also have migraine with aura attacks as well. The symptoms for both types of migraines are different. The migraine without aura has the following symptoms which are found in most of the patients of migraine:
- Headache attacks which will continue for 4-72 hours if they are not treated.
- Either Unilateral location or Pulsating quality.
- The pain may vary from Moderate to severe.
- Headache causing a disturbance in the regular activities.
- The headache may also cause Nausea and vomiting or Photophobia as well as phonophobia.
There are various symptoms of the Migraine with aura. These symptoms appear one after another and can remain for 5 minutes to 40 minutes. Some of the symptoms include the following:
- This is one of the cases where you will be affected with flickering lights, spots, lines as well as loss of vision.
- You can also have a sense of numbness as well.
- There will also be a speech disturbance.
- The Visual symptoms will affect only one side of the field of vision.
- The sensory symptoms will affect only one side of the body
Some of the things which can trigger Migraine includes Changes in sleep patterns, Smoking or exposure to smoke, Skipping meals, various Allergic reactions Bright lights, loud noises, Physical or emotional stress, Alcohol as well as caffeine, Menstrual cycle fluctuations, birth control pills, Tension headaches as well as Foods containing tyramine.
